at evening 28th of December we left England. Big ferry NOrmandie moved us from POrtsmouth to Caen for 351 GBP - two way tickets for 2 persons +car. First stop was in Sedan, on the border with Luxemburg. our TomTom gprs device lost a direction and we visited a forest in LUxemburg by mistake:) near snowly road we found a sign "FRANCE", became happy and got a nice accomodation in Chateau Le Fort hotel.
strongly recommended for tourists for overnight staying. Romantic place, well renovated hotel, 3 stars, but very very good. There is a restaurant, but we didn'tbook it before. That's why we asked a reception for a booking of nice restaurant in the town. Have to say, they made a good job, so we have a great dinner with excellent food at La Ronde des Sens. 34 rue du Menif,www.la-ronde-des-sens-08.com reservation 0324335727.
29th of december we moved to Beaune, via Reims. Reims has amazing Dome, well known by its vitrage. an artist Marc Shagal made some windows there by vitrage technic at 1971.
Shagl also had a workshop there, he made a lot of decorations for world famous people.
In Beaune we stayed at Hotel Central 3***. they also have 2 Michelin stars restaurant, but we decided to explore some local places for a meal. The Restaurant was not so good, and i shall not take your time to read my description :)
next stop for New Year and ski - little town Alpe D'Huez. near Grenoble.
we booked a Hotel Royal Our's Blanc 4****, that is a part of Madame Vacances Group. It's originally british company, but they have mixed staff and management from european countries.
we have "Gold Room" with nice mountain view. We have jacuzzi that doesn't work, toilet that doesn't work and half-working SPA.
we suggested to have New year dinner at hotel's restaurant that was a mistake. for additional 15Euros (as guests, for people from outside 75 euros)we have over cooked prawns as a starters, some rubber as a main course ( it should be a veal according a menu) and one month age cakes for a desert. Our british neighbours from next table we agreed with us about a quality of food. Also we had a conversation about this hotel and they told us about no service at all during their one week staying there. Also staff is friendly but useless.
Today for example, i asked about a laundry service. i've got a question back "Do you like dry, or dry and ironed laundry?"...i should be surprised if it was a question from professional staff, but after 3 requests about non working bath and toilet, i didn't.
so, we pay Half Board and still use local restaurants that are also not perfect. as we espected from french food culture.
Ski - perfect. nice slopes, well cared, high mountains - until 3300 m Le Pic Blanc. we booked lessons from Ecole Ski Franchese. in advance. 2 monthes ago. 3 days private lessons 410 euro - 3 hours every day. An Instructor is very professional and friendly. His name is Bernard Pariat, www.esf-alpedhuez.com. we took both lessons - for intermediate and beginners, we were pleasant both.
to be continue....
